You can use the resulting clarified, purified water for rice cooking. **Q: With kishu binchotan charcoal sticks -- while they may absorb some chlorine in the water, i can often still taste the chlorine!! what's up?** A: The instructions state that you should boil your charcoal for ten minutes every tow weeks to month. I love that it filters water without the pesky plastic that is so common in water filters. Each stick filters for 3-4 months. I boil the stick every 2-4 weeks to clean out the impurities filtered out by the stick. Ew, it definitely does the job. Apparently this works best in a glass pitcher, which I have. And when it's done, smash it down to put in your garden or compost. So no waste.
