So as I planned my first big custom PC build, I wanted something like this product -- and this version seemed to suit the need better than any other I found. I had some doubts, because some people apparently found that not all ports worked, and my motherboard manual does say that the internal USB 3 headers are made to support only 2 ports each. But I was hopeful, because it runs by SATA power -- voltage similar to the power from the AC/DC transformer for an external USB hub, including the one I had for 7 ports. So I gave it a try.All 7 ports run fine. Right now I have an external HD on it (1 TB), plus a large capacity flash drive, my webcam, my FocusRite audio interface, and a USB adapter for SD cards, and I can use all of them together, or switch rapidly back-and-forth between them. Success!At first it seemed to stumble or lag: I could read the flash drive but not the larger HDD, for example. I could view photos off the SD card in the USB adapter, but if I tried to run an MP4 clip off that SD card, it would run for a while, then freeze. I thought, well this hub works OK but not really well -- not like a set of "real" USB ports. Then with just a few more uses, the PC seemed to adjust to it better, and communicate with it more smoothly, so that now I can plug in any or all of those things, and access everything including playing movies off a card. I don't "need" to do all these things on USB -- not all at once, anyway! -- but the more I test it, the better it works. It turned out to be a solid part of my build, and a terrific choice.
