Review: Another winner from Wurkkos - Disclaimer: I don't possess the equipment or necessary knowledge to do a professional test of lights that measures actual light output or electrical properties of the light or its battery. My light reviews are only from first hand experience living with the light for a few days and using it in the million ways I need a light after dark around our property. The build quality of the HD20 is excellent. The body is shaped like most of Wurkkos other lights, and it looks just like its little brother, the HD15 headlamp only bigger. It charges by USB C and the port is on the back of the head opposite the LEDs. The USB port is covered with a little rubber cover that presses in to make it water tight. You can use any USB C cable to charge, even USB C to USB C. You can use the light as a powerbank too by just hooking up the appropriate cable to the light and your device. When I tried it it worked fine for my Motorola phone and I let it charge my phone up a few percentage points just to see if it was working. I ordered a Klein tools USB meter so in the future I can have a little better idea of the Voltage and Current that the lights I review that have the powerbank function are putting out. My time with the HD20 went really well. The first day I received it I charged it to full and used it while I was BBQing a pork butt on the smoker until after dark. I was really impressed with the light it put off. It lit up our whole yard and our 200ft driveway like day. It was easy to operate and find a less blinding and more useful level of lighting too. It has 2 LED emitters, one flood and one spotlight. Most of the control UI is good, but I'm not crazy about the control to change which emitter is on or to make both of them be on. I cheated and just used both of them on the whole time. I never felt like I didn't have the right amount of lighting with both of them on at the desired output level during my few days using the HD20 as my only light, and when I wanted massive amounts of light it delivered well. The only thing that could be considered a negative about the HD20 is it is a little big for this style headlamp. It uses one 21700 battery and it comes with a Wurkkos branded 5000mah battery. I saw a few of the professional reviews that were not very happy about the size or weight. I tend to think of it another way though. The larger battery gets the light a longer runtime, which could be very beneficial for certain uses or people. Ultimately if you are worried about the size and weight, it would be best to stick to an 18650 headlamp like the HD15 if you want a light with the output and features of the HD20 only smaller. In conclusion the HD20 is an impressive light. It has a good feature set, and a really good runtime because of the larger battery. It's not for everyone because it is big, but it will certainly fit someone that is looking for longer runtimes with this style of light. I'm personally hoping Wurkkos refreshes this model and gives it an sft40 led for the thrower emitter.
Review: Awesome Olight Perun 2 Alternative - I liked the idea of the Olight Perun 2, but not the price. After buying a Wurkkos Ts10 for everyday carry and being blown away by the build quality and features (best 14500 EDC flashlight IMO) at an incredible price, I checked to see if they had a Perun competitor. The HD20 meets or exceeds Olight specs at less than half the price. While the Perun 2 turbo mode puts out 2,500 lumens compared to the HD20's 2,000 lumens, the HD20 has better flexibility in the normal and more useful modes. The HD20 has a much better moonlight mode at 1 lumen vs the Perun 2's 5 lumens and this is a much more used function than turbo's brief output. The HD20 also features strobe and SOS modes and has two emitter (spot and wide) vs the Perun 2's single emitter which allows way more flexibility in beam pattern and brightness. Additionally, the HD20 also comes with a higher capacity battery - 5,000 mAh vs the Perun 2's 4,000. The HD20 also emits a slightly warmer/neutral light at 5,000K while the Perun 2 appears to output in the cool/blue 6,000K range (some may prefer cool light over warm though). A simple USB-C cable charges the HD20 whereas the Perun 2 will use OLight's proprietary (and nifty) magnetic charger. For charging on the go, USB charging is easier and universal though. The HD20's build quality is great and I love the orange anodized body - though Olight offers more color options than Wurkkos does. The area Wurkkos models suffer a bit compared to Olight is often the pocket clip - the Ts10 clip is rather lackluster (I immediately replaced it with a clip from an Olight Perun 2 Mini, which is THE ideal solution). However, I'm happy to report the HD20 pocket clip is great - on par with Olight. You can attach it under the head of the light (as pictured) for a more mid-body mount, OR you can flip it and attach it just above the tail cap, which allows more of a deep carry option (much preferred). The pocket clip on the Perun 2 also appears to be able to attach above the tail cap, but the HD20 layout offers mid and deep carry options while the Perun 2 is just deep carry on both ends. Overall, with the frequent sales, you can get an HD20 for nearly 1/3rd of the price of a Perun 2 and have better lighting modes, 2 emitters, more battery capacity, and universal charging without sacrificing build quality, aesthetics, or reliability. I can't recommend the HD20 more highly and Wurkkos overall has become my go-to flashlight brand. Buy an HD20 for your backpack, and while you're at it, pick up a TS10 (and a Perun 2 Mini clip) for your pocket - both are absolute steals of a deal.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ So good! But it broke 😕
*by C***M on February 22, 2025*

I owned it for 3 years with occasional use. In that time I faced two major issues which resulted in deductions. 1. The wide throw burned itself out. I had it on turbo. I took it with me to my campground bathroom. The flashlight didn't feel hot so I assumed all was well. Mid business the light turns blue and then goes out. Unfortunate. 2. I was charging it. Mid charge I unplugged it then plugged it back in. 5 minutes later my mom says that she smells something burning. I go to the flashlight. It's too hot to hold but didn't burn my carpet. It smells like like burning plastic chemicals. It never turned on again. I'm glad that the board went out rather than the battery. Maybe this is a safety feature? All I know is that my flashlight doesn't work anymore. Even days later the smell is strong enough to fill my garage. I really liked the flashlight while it worked. I brought it with me for every excuse I had. The battery life and brightness were so good that I stopped using my shop flood light and just brought the flashlight instead. This made car repairs much easier, especially with the magnetic back. I like that the power button is on the end. It's easier to find than other flashlights which have the power button on the side. As a personal preference my next flashlight will have a smaller battery. At high brightness the light gets hot. For long periods of time you're best off using the medium mode. Battery life at medium mode is 22 hours. That's excessive. I went months without charging this flashlight. You're better off getting a smaller battery that results in a more nimble light weight flashlight. As good as it was I have to give it a low rating for its two failures. These are issues that can be improved with a better design. Some of Wurkkos other flashlights list automatic turbo stepdown as a feature. This HD20 supposedly has "(ATR) technology: ATR automatically reduces the brightness level when the driver temperature reaches 60°C to prevent overheating Low voltage warning". Apparently that's not cutting it.
