I've purchased 1 X 16gb and it worked with the single stick already in. Keep in mind that some laptops mostly the Intel version (F) has the dual stick configuration already in, but varies from laptop to laptop. I was using half of it just in windows upgrading to 32gb. Seems about right using 20 to 25% now. My advice on upgrading is when you've first installed and testing your screen may just be black for up to a minute mine was but I'm guessing was just configuration happening to the new ram.
