About the same size as a Penn Senator 114. It would make a decent boat reel for offshore if the gears held up. I'm going to have to return it and go at least two sizes smaller. It is fairly tight, with very little "slop." The reel casts and retrieves extremely smooth. The reel is a heavy reel that needs to be used with a medium heavy, or heavy rod which is at least Seven Feet. A rod Eight - Ten Feet will work great. The metal construction is almost a thing of the past. However, being a bit "old school" I appreciate that feature. This reel will handle fairly large terminal tackle and bait. Make to adjust the cast control accordingly. Remember, this is a big reel and get ready for a workout if you do a moderate amount of bank fishing. Myself, I would buy it again.
