While the periscope pipe looks smaller, the cross section of rectangular pipe has just about exactly the same area as the cross section of a standard 4" round vent, and it was much shorter than my old pipe (which looped up and down), so the air passes through with less resistance. That short straight run is what you want in a dryer vent.However, I didn't follow the instructions that come with it. They start with, "Measure the distance center to center between the wall vent and the dryer vent". Try doing that with only a few inches of clearance between the dryer and the wall. Instead put the periscope pipe in place without clamping it and use a marking pen to mark the length. To do this you may need to shorten one end with tin snips, as explained in the instructions. Take the periscope pipe out. Use sheet metal screws through the sliding parts behind each baffle (where they will be out of the air flow) to set it at that length. Then do something else not mentioned in the instructions. Invest in some good moisture-resistant tape and tape all the joints (Use the thin stuff that looks like metal). Otherwise it obviously will leak a bit. Then attach the periscope pipe to whichever vent (dryer or wall) is furthest from the side of the dryer you can access and tighten that clamp with the other end of the unit positioned opposite the other vent. Then push the dryer back to bring the periscope pipe and the second vent together (ideally with someone else holding it in place, but one person can do it). Then tighten the second clamp. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Tight solution to a tighter problem *by H***Y on Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2021* Moved into a new house and the new dryer the sellers provided was to sticking out to much to shut the closet door. This item was one of those things that I didn’t know existed until I needed one. Used some aluminum tape to completely seal the fixture before attaching it to the dryer. Takes a bit of patience and maybe trial & error to get it fitted. The vent installed as intended. It replaced a caved-in vent hose which I thought was causing air flow issues. A week after the install of this new vent, my wife indicated she thought the clothes were taking longer to dry.When installing it, I was surprised to see how narrow the air passage was especially where the baffles were used to direct the air through the two ports.
