Once you get it apart, replacing the bearings and having them seated level and in the right spot was no easy task. The bearings worked perfect. A few hundreths of an inch of mis-alignment during installation could damage the seal, allowing a tiny bit of wash water to get past it, leading to short bearing life. I suspect alignment is as difficult at the factory as it is in the field.
