Review: Best Quality! - I was a little unsure about purchasing this leaf lard simply because it was a little expensive but when I look all the good reviews I thought I will give it tried. I am so glad I did because this product it’s fabulous has the best taste and it is odorless and the texture it’s very soft and smooth easy to spread on piece of toast or to use it how ever you please, Love this lard the price it’s high but it’s worth every penny for the quality of the lard I am so glad I purchase this lard because I been looking for alternatives for my omega 3 the good fat, I will definitely purchase this lard again, I am currently on the Carnivore diet and this is a great choice better than butter. Thank you for the great quality!
Review: Makes the best pie crusts PERIOD - Used this to make my first ever pie crusts this year for Thanksgiving. Everything I read said the classic way to make the best pie crusts was to use lard and butter instead of shortening. I’m guessing you are having the same problem I did...you can’t find lard anywhere anymore! This stuff isn’t cheap (I assume. Really don’t have anything to compare it to). But people raves about my pies and crusts this year. Even my grandmother (who is known the “pie lady”) was impressed with the crusts. I’m no expert. Again these were my first attempts at pies/crusts. I only asked that everyone was honest in their opinions so I could learn and make changes. I was told that my pies/crusts would stand up against the best of the rest of the family. That’s about the highest praise I could have received. This product was a huge part of that. Best ingredients = best results.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I've noticed some differences in labeling on products. What is the difference in pure "leaf" lard and pure lard? Or is there a difference?**
A: Hi J. WebbThank you for the great question! Yes, there is a difference. Products labeled “Leaf Lard” are (supposed to be) rendered from a specific ‘cut’ of fat called leaf fat. It is an internal fat that surrounds the kidneys. And when it comes to pork fat, leaf fat is the top dog by far. It is in a grade and class all its own. The rest of the pork fat just doesn’t measure up. Leaf fat sets a high bar. The reason leaf fat is classed and graded above the rest of the fat is because it has unique properties not normally found in fats. Imagine a fat that is creamy and light on the palate, not a hint of greasiness to let on that it is actually a fat. No flavor of its own means no worries about using it in any dish. And since its not carrying its own flavor its got room to carry existing ones so that each bite is a symphony of flavor. It is as light on the stomach as it is on the palate since it is highly digestible. It is also the only lard that is famous for its extraordinary results in baking, frying, sautéing, grilling, pastries, cookies, bread, tortillas, pie crusts and well everything else.. Then there is Pure Lard……(see above - grading of leaf fat) Just kidding. Products labeled “ fill in the blank “***** Lard” or even just “Lard” can be rendered from any grade of pork fat. They can be a mixture of the higher grades of fat or a mixture of just the lower grades. They can be rendered from one grade, or two, or three. Which makes it impossible to say anything about the qualities of “Lard”. Luckily, lard has been around for a long time and people learned along the way what qualities make for a good lard. All Lard should be:1.	Color – White – the closer the lard’s color is to white the higher its quality and purity.2.	Odor – Mild / No odor or Low, pleasing odor3.	Texture - Small crystals, Homogeneous 4.	Consistency – Firm, to above average firmness, waxy 5.	Flavor - Mild, pleasing6.	NOTE: Our Pure Lard is rendered from 100% back fat. Back fat is #2 the second best pork fat.

**Q: Hello, is the container glass. is this leaf or back fat? is this lard processed in any way? thank-you**
A: Hi Joseph,

It is 100% pure leaf lard rendered from whole leaf/kidney fat. All of our leaf fat is purchased whole (not ground) in order to assure the purity of our leaf lard. The whole fats are hand selected and trimmed, ground, rendered, filtered and then packaged into glass jars. No other processing of any kind is done and nothing is added. It is pure, natural and delicious. Thank you for your questions.

Best regards,
Heather

**Q: What country is the source for the pork fat from which this lard is rendered?**
A: Hello,

We source our fats from animals that were born, raised and harvested in the USA.

Thank you for your question.

Heather

**Q: Who is the manufacturer? I can't find Renderings online. Is there a website?**
A: I can’t answer those question but I like Proper Foods for Life brand better. Their leaf lard is easy to work with and makes good pie crusts. www.buylard.com

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Anything I bake with this is amazing
*by C***. on August 2, 2021*

Many years ago I bought some lard. I didn't grow up with it but I had heard how good it was. That block of lard smelled 'piggy' and I was so turned off I never used it. This leaf lard is nowhere near the same stuff. This lard is beautifully white and has virtually no smell at all. I used Alton Brown's biscuit recipe and used all lard where he calls for shortening and butter. Sorry Alton, your biscuits don't hold a candle to these! Being from Georgia (USA) I grew up making cornbread. With this lard I took cornbread to a different level. This stuff is so neutral in flavor that it can go in anything and be used in place of any fat. It's kind of pricey so I don't use it for frying, just baking. Anyway from now on if I want whatever I'm baking to really pop I'm using leaf lard.
