It's .925 sterling silver, meaning 92.5% silver content, and 7.75% alloy metals, which usually is most or all copper in traditional sterling silver. Alloys are metals added to the pure silver to make the combination stronger, and more easily workable by those using it to produce finished jewelry and other products, such as musical instruments, or parts of them. There is a relatively new silver alloy metal on the market called Argentium Silver, which uses a metaloid called Germanium as a part of the alloy metals added to the silver. This combination has been proven to be stronger, more resilient, easier to work, *much less able to tarnish,* and shinier than standard sterling silver. Having the engraving "colored," if available, will make it stand out more against the background. Check around, and find preferably an independent jeweler (not a "mall" or chain type store) who has a bench jeweler and/or a trained individual who does laser engraving on site.
