(i have noticed cheaper brands charge with pwm)** A: The GV-5 (as all the Genasun charge controllers) is a "real" MPPT with a tracking speed of 15 times per sec and a tracking efficiency of 99%. **Q: Is it waterproof? Or water resistant? I will be mounting outside.** A: It is not waterproof. The board has a conformal coating against dust and moisture but the GV-5 has to be installed in a place protected by water. It is also highly recommended a drip loop. **Q: Is it possible to hook up a 12v power supply to the panel side to charge a battery indoors?** A: Not 12v. A "12v" solar panel typically puts out anywhere from 16 to 20v and a "12v" lead acids battery's float voltage is about 13.8 but will get charged even higher during a full cycle. You could charge this indoors but I would say you would need to supply something between 14.5 and 20v. **Q: Will this product perform well on gel-type marine batteries ?** A: We have only used these with flooded type marine deep cycle batteries; no issues in this case so far.
