And yes, i added water. Anyone have this problem?** A: I did initially but realized I was not placing the water resovour on the base flush. The white ossilater was turning and little to no steam was coming out. Just be sure to line up correctly. **Q: How quiet is it really?** A: Very quiet...very soft humming sound at best. I am a very light sleeper and I definitely do not hear it. **Q: what maintenance is required?** A: Those answers are incorrect. There is maintenance described by the Mfg.in description of product. Every week clean transducer, water tank and unit base. I rinse the transducer with water and wipe down the base tray of unit weekly. Vinegar works well with wet cloth for wiping down tray. I use 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water for cleaning the water tank every month. **Q: We have a water softener. Is that water okay to use in here or should I use distilled water?** A: Distilled water only. If you don't want to buy it fill your tea kettle or pot and bring to a boil and you have distilled water. I bought one bottle and after the water cools I refill the g a lion bottle.
