The 47s are an updated version of the 13MWZ from 1947, NOT the time of Wrangler's foundation, when jeans became popular after Dude Ranches of the 20s and 30s and how they were required for western worker during WW2. 13 Stands for either the 13th test pants in 1947 AND the weight of the denim used. They became "cool" in the 50s and 60s. MWZ stands for Men's With Zipper. The 2016 47s add a more comfortable waist with more room in the thighs as well as a ring-spun and broken twill denim that not only last 20% longer but is more comfortable too. However, they only have 4 pockets and are 3/4'' lower on your belly. It is often asked if these are "stretch" pants. To a small figurative degree, they are. But literally not, no spandex.
