Review: Really impressed with these phones... bought 4 of them for our family..... - My husband works for the Railroad & yrs ago, he had to fix a Horn that was stuck and lost some of his hearing... other home phones just weren't loud enough, where I had to talk for him ... I bought these specifically for the BOOST feature (for extra loudness)... this works well , now he has no trouble hearing any conversation . A few other things I love about these phones... the SLOW feature, when playing back a message -when someone is saying a return phone # too fast...you can SLOW it down and catch the #, without repeating the message again & again.. I also LOVE that it holds 100 names/ numbers in it's Phone book (last phone only held 50)... that it has a WHITE backlit display uses larger lettering, very helpful to read from a distance - has blinking red lights too...also goes a very nice distance from the house ... about 400 ft away, it's still working clearly from the house... Another feature I love is : you can set the phone to SPEAK the # each time it is pressed, so you "hear" it -- I have never seen this feature before on a phone. We use MAGIC JACK with this phone.. no problems at all.. works GREAT.. There is a blocking feature , I have no used this yet... it has a number of "Groups" you can list your names/ numbers under to help find them quicker... and you can designate a different RING to each group...which is also very nice! The handset itself is heavier & larger than what I was used to, but with all these wonderful features (& more I haven't explored yet)... Has helped my mom hear phone calls much much better. Volume boost seems fine has not caused any distorting others mentioned and its nice and loud!. Shape of handset earpiece really helps be sure the phone is position on the ear properly. We replace a relatively new Panasonic that had a minimal "earcup" more like a tiny indent that mom struggled to get over her ear properly (that one had replaced a very old Panasonic that did have a more pronounced place for the ear like this amplified one now has and I had been very disappointed that the new sleeker design was difficult for her to position just right). As others have noted this handset is heavier than the regular Panasonic it replaced but improved the quality of phone calls a lot and my tiny mom is ok with it. It is nice to be able to have the boost set to be on all the time since mom is usually the only person using the phone but it is easy to turn it off for a call when a normal hearing person need to. Battery backup in the base so it works in a power failure is also a great addition. Tone at my end when receiving a call form this phone seems a bit different perhaps sort of flat, but its clear. ## Questions & Answers

**Q: do I need a phone jack for this, or just an electrical outlet?**
A: The base station with handset requires both a phone back and power outlet.  The additional handsets only require electrical outlets as they all access the base station.

**Q: why did the hand set stop functioning few months ago? why wd it stopthe panasonic phone for an elderly mother who needs by her bed. an emergency phone**
A: Same thing happened to me. .At 91 we need a working phone for emergencies and one that is reliable.
Disconnected this unit and replaced it with our old units .

**Q: Can this be registered to and older panasonic base? not tgm420 or tgm450? will the slow talk and other features work?**
A: I just bought the system 420 and decided the extra 10db this provides over the 44 headset was needed and I bought this model 45 and thankfully IT WORKS SUPERBLY.  All features function exactly as the other model 44 handsets.  SLOW BOOST PHONEBOOK CID everything immediately and just fine.
Do note that the extra 10db amplification only applies to handset use not speakerphone.

  I wish the Panasonic website was more specific about how well these handsets interchange. The compatibility chart for the base model offers a hint. It shows the tgm420 works with a plethora of handsets so I took the chance and it paid off.  On the handset web page is where Panasinic should make it clear that this model isss backward compatible.

**Q: What is the maximum range of the handset to the base station?**
A: The maximum range under perfect conditions is up to 300', which should be adequate for normal use.  They do make a range extender, too.
Remember, though, that range is for perfect conditions, which we rarely (or never) have.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Loud and clear for elderly individuals

3 week update - she figured it out in less than 2 days and absolutely loves it. She can now carry on those important calls with her health care professionals and her family. Thank you for a great product that is elderly friendly! I purchased this for a 95 year old client of mine after her hearing tool a turn for the worse. It's a bit of a learning curve for her since she's had the same phone for almost 20 years. I promised her that if she gives it a week, she will get accustomed to it. She is VERY happy with the sound and volume. She can now hear her doctors, her children, grand and great grand children on the phone again! I left 4 stars because I personally feel a few things could be different to make it more user friendly. When the answering machine picks up, the user cannot hear their recording playing out loud but can hear the person leaving a message. This confuses the new user who is used to knowing that someone is going to leave a message as they hear their recording play. The buttons are a bit hard to press for older and more fragile hands. The clarity is manageable with the tone buttons, but sometimes the reception of the person on the other end sounds like they are in a hole. Call blocking seems easy enough. If getting this for an elderly person, be sure to sit with them and make a hand written instruction page for them to see clearly. There are several functions that may confuse them. Show them the basics and focus on those basics. Value for the money is good compared to similar products.
