His paw would get too sweaty and might develop skin breakdown. These caps have worked beautifully. I trimmed the open end so it would fit his claw better and not rub the skin at the base of the claw. In the pic, the middle two toe nails are capped. The shiny one I just applied today. The scuffed one I applied 4 days ago and it’s still firmly affixed to his nail without much wear. I ordered XL and XXL in case. XL is for 20-40 lbs, XXL is for 40-70 lbs according to the included instructions. Scout is a 50 lb Shiba Inu mix, but has dainty paws. The XXL was way too big. The XL worked perfectly after a trim. In the future I would choose different color mail caps so that I can readily see if the cap fell off our not. Review: Size way up - Sizing is off. I was not able to place these correctly because they were very narrow.
