A: The bit is 1" and the handke end has a 1" hole for a handle which can also be used to make the 1" pegs from limbs,

A: An early assembly technique utilized wooden pegs instead of nails or bolts.  Furniture as well as buildings used wooden pegs to connect beams and furniture parts.  Everything from barns to houses, to beds or chairs can be made this way.

!" is a versatile size for bushcraft assembly.  This hand auger is not going to be the most efficient way to do a peg assembly but it's easily portable and will get the job done.  A 1" dowel can be used as a handle or the hole in the handle end can be used to trim down a limb to make a handle as well as to make the pegs.  

I would prefer to not have to build a large structure , but with this auger and an axe plus some elbow grease, a shelter and furniture could be built.
