Every razor has small variations in style that require an alteration in shaving method. I think this razor lacks a certain amount of support for the blade because i could feel the blade skipping or flexing in weird ways, especially when shaving against the grain. But as long as i was careful, smooth, slow, and not using any pressure, it worked fine. i like the texturing of the handle, and the case it comes in with a mirror is a nice touch. Given the price i paid, its a good value. i actually bought it by accident, wanting a top opening razor, but this one is a pleasant surprise despite the weird lack of blade support (meaning that the blade seems to stick out more than my other shaver, it doesnt feel as solid to me). But I would suggest that any beginners do some research and watch a few videos on how to shave with a DE safety razor. But I must say I get a closer shave than I have ever gotten from todays multiple blade razors.
