I wipe the area with alcohol first, use a spoolie wand to apply, and I do not use any oils etc or barriers. I found that using a lotion or oil to stick on a barrier was sloppy and resulted in the oil inevitably wicking the dye into my eyes or getting on the lashes and preventing dying. I keep my eyes half closed and apply carefully, and keep swiping my lashes occasionally for 10-15 minutes before washing off. Apply to the top and bottom sides of lashes and try to get it sticky/gloppy at the tips. For brows, be careful to apply BOTH at the same time, back & forth, or you will have one brow darker even if you time them because the developer accelerates (my darker brow was the second one but timed the same as the other). The blue/black is very dark and looks very good and natural on lashes even though I have medium coloring. It will stain skin purple. I lightly brush my brow hairs, not down to the root, and it gives adequate enhancement without having to buy a different color dye.
