It is not a car charger unless you have a 12 volt dc adapter with a usb plug in or you can charge it through your usb connection in your computer. **Q: My original battery says 6.8v. this one reports 7.2v. are they still interchangeable?** A: My original battery is 7.2 volts so this replacement works fine. My camera is a Sony HDR-CX380. Do you have a different model that would account for the difference in voltage? To the comments that the battery is difficult to put into this charger; The charger comes apart into two pieces. I have found that if I separate these pieces, it is easier to slide the battery in. I have had no problems with the charger or the two batteries that I received with it. **Q: Does this work with 230v AC input or it will work only with 110v?** A: I believe it works only with 110v. So on a cost comparison, this was the obvious choice. I read a review that said the batteries are difficult to insert into the charger.
