The bare wood is smooth with no splinters. It is sturdy enough for my needs of hold up to 15 pounds of items. For the price of $27 , I found this to be a good deal because I priced other boxes this size online and did not find anything like this box for the price I paid. I thought about making a pine box myself but after seeing the prices for pine wood and hinges and latches at Home Depot in Los Angeles, it turned out to be more money than I paid for this box. I highly recommend this box.

I just received this beautiful box from Amazon and it exceeded all my expectations. This box is well made and lid fits perfectly flinch and aligned with the box base. I bought this as an equipment storage case, no intention to decorate or finish it. What I received is accurately made, no imperfections worth mentioning. It doesn't have a cheap look at all. Yeah, I suppose the material is a little thin, might split if dropped.
