I had both of these problems on the regular tower fan so now it work just like this Vornado unit ( On/off and level change only) Air is very focused and not lossy across distance . It's direct line powered so does not go through a power brick or require another power source like a USB one. A bit more power hungry than the Sharper Image USB powered fan which only uses 1.5W to 2.5 W to run. This one uses 21W at the lowest setting, then 30, 38, and 52W on the highest setting. It move tons of air so no complaints there. It's about 55 dB noise level at full blast down to 40 dB at lowest setting. Not entirely noise free but not unpleasant at low settings. Love squirrel cage fans for how well they work at moving directed air. This is a great example of one to own.

**Q: Will it cool down a 10x12 bedroom that is usually hot**
A: The fan can COOL by moving air from a COOL OUTSIDE location and exhaust it on the warmer side. This also replaces indoor air, with possible odors and moisture then replaces it with outdoor air.
For indoor only applications remember: It's a FAN and ONLY MOVES AIR! A fan only cools by perception because moving air evaporates moisture on our skin. This evaporation is the COOLING we perceive! If you place the fan closer to where you feel the air movement, it will help!

**Q: How many watts does it use**
A: Low-18, Med- 25, MedHigh- 32, High-46

**Q: What is the height of this when horizontal? I want to put this in front of a baseboard vent that is under dresser to help move air.**
A: It’s just under 5 1/2 inches at the highest point.  I use mine in the horizontal position on my kitchen windowsill to move air when cooking.  It works great.

**Q: Could it be used in a hallway with bedrooms off of it?**
A: It's a small room fan so I think it work work much better in individual rooms.

Update: its been a couple years now and still love this fan. It's attractive, quiet at lower speeds. If you are on phone often but still want effective and quiet, this is it. It also fits well under most monitors if placed horizontal. It has proved to be long lasting and reliable. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Back for another one!

Now I’m mindful that people have reported some serious problems with this fan. So I’m holding my breath. But really, I have liked the first one so well I have just ordered a second. Maybe it will turn out to be a bad decision. But right now I am hopeful. At high speed it lifts my window curtains from 10 feet away — and they are substantial, blackout curtains. And it does make at noise at high speed but it’s not like being next to a vacuum cleaner or an aging bathroom exhaust fan. It’s barely noticeable and is inoffensive. It does not get in the way of conversations or, for me at least, sleep. I have it in the upright position and it is quite stable. But I have no problem believing those who report otherwise. There is little concern for quality control in factories these days. I bet a lot of lemons make it into boxes. I also wonder if some of the “unstable” units suffer from vibration which might be tamped down with the application of self adhesive felt , protectors. Probably worth a try. I particularly appreciate that this fan is effective when the windows are open as well as when the air conditioning is on. We have non-zoned central air conditioning and using this fan in our tv room allows us to keep our a/c warmer and still be cool in the room we’re sitting in. And of course when it’s a windows open day this fan creates a cooling breeze. The size of this fan makes it an unobtrusive presence in the room. It doesn’t take up much space and because it can be used either in the vertical or horizontal position it is easy to find a space for it.. I’m looking forward to putting one in those kitchen to assist in those summer days when I simply can’t get out of turning in the oven!
