It looks like it would but I'm not sure about the aluminum plate.** A: I don't think that this would work for laying out stair stringers. There are only measurement markings on the "blade" side and not the handle. In laying out stair stringers you usually need to measure the rise and run of the treads with both sides of a carpenters framing square. The square has a few light scratches. I did check the squareness against my DIN 285 00 and it was square inside and out.
