Because this is a manual lens. It does not have auto focus or auto exposure. You have to set up the camera to shoot without a lens, in the bizarre wording of the menus. As long as you enable focus peaking and MF assist (magnification) focusing is easy. If you set the mode dial to A(perture) and use a fixed aperture the camera will set the shutter speed. This is a good learning tool. You have to frame your shot and focus it yourself. However, I was pleasantly surprised with it's metal build. This is my first manual focus Len, and it is definitely a change from the auto-focus kit Len. I will say there's a slight learning curve but nothing crazy. It's not as versitale as the kit Len, so I would not expect it to be used for every situation. I've only had a chance to really test out the lens once. However, I am excited to try it out on future adventures.
