I would use the grommet attachement, included if you have that option. **Q: Height of the bottom of the monitor from desktop at the highest it can go?** A: Pretty dang high to be frank, at least 2 feet for mine. **Q: Can i attach my laptop to one side and monitor to the other?** A: I don’t believe so as the monitor stand has 2 separate arm extensions that support the 2 separate monitors. The monitors are attached to each separate arm with 4 heavy duty screws that screw into the monitors to support the weight of the 2 monitors. Secondly, I don’t believe you would be able to screw the heavy duty screws into the back of the laptop as the laptops don’t have this option for screwing/mounting, at least not mine. The laptop is to sit in front of the 2 monitors on the stand to give you a 1,2,3 way monitor/screen setup (extend display) **Q: the stand doesnt hold the two monitors are they are below the weight limit. How is this possible when it is supposed to be free standing?** A: You need to pull the monitors back closer to the post.
