Neodymium magnets are notorious for their incredibly powerful, but surprisingly dense magnetic fields, and these puppies are far from an exception to that rule. They need to be about 3 inches apart to really attract one another so they have the densest magnetic field of a magnet I've ever owned, but for my purposes they work fantastic. In fact, I'm using them to secure my artwork to my art desk, and they work so well I'm going to have to buy some more to make my pieces stick even better.It's important to note that because of the density of the magnetic field, these magnets have their incredible strength when they're interacting with another magnetic field. Some steel alloys won't attract as strongly even from a quarter-inch away through glass(which is what I'm using them for.), so be prepared to buy a couple of slightly less powerful magnets to put on the other side of what you're trying to hold. Believe me, I'm using magnets with a 6lb pull on the other side of my glass art table and these attach like Remoras when I get them attracting one another.
