They are a little firm but not back. They are fairly small, but perfect for Yoga but might be too small to use for a camping pillow but I haven't tried them (if you don't roll around they would work). I put them on the seat rest of my Audi A6 and they are kind of uncomfortable to rest on in an upright driving position but might work in a reclined sleep position.
