The first thing you will notice is the heft of this item. The top (seat) is basically 2" thick and the legs are about an 1 1/4". It takes just minutes to put together and it is beautiful and extremely sturdy. It has adjustable feet on the bottom of the legs so if you are using it on an uneven surface, you can still make it stable. The bench came packaged in a very sturdy box and inside it was wrapped and well protected. It arrived in perfect condition. I had been looking at some benches that were less expensive but I am glad I went with this one. I couldn't be happier. Review: Beautiful. Very sturdy, heavy, well-made. Outstanding customer service. - I love everything about this product. First, the aesthetics - it is beautifully designed in an old Japanese style. It fits perfectly with my Asian decor and Japanese soaking tub. Second, the quality. This bench is very sturdy and I expect will last for years. It weighs 16 pounds, assembled. Thick teak legs, top and crossbar. No marks or defects on the surface anywhere. Nice color wood that looks a little aged, but has a bright new patina. Third, the details. Designed for good water runoff which will add to the product life. There are large rubber pads on the bottom of the legs, so you can make adjustments if needed to level it. Nice touch. The screws are in recessed holes so you can’t see them after assembly. Again, a nice detail. 4th, easy assembly. Took me less than 15 mins. Clear instructions. Only six screws to screw in. 5th, Good value. It lists for $149, but occasionally goes on sale for $108. That’s a great price for a high-quality item. 6th, outstanding customer service. There was a minor problem on one leg, which I would not call a defect - just something that might affect its durability. As shown in my last picture, one of the holes on one leg happened to fall exactly on a crack between 2 boards on the leg. I wondered if that might cause the leg to split apart a little after years of service and exposure to water. When I called the company, they were very understanding and readily agreed to send a replacement part. They sent it out promptly the next day. So that makes it perfect. Also, notably, my call was months beyond the return period and they did not make that an issue. They didn’t have to do anything, but customer service is a big priority for this company, so they put the customer first. How refreshing is that ?!! 6th. It’s very sturdy. It’s a bench so it’s made for seating, not standing. But I got it in part so I could stand on it to help get into a deep soaking tub. It works for that purpose. Just be sure your weight is centered on the middle of the bench, not the sides. Here’s one tip for assembly: when starting each screw, if it seems snug - do not force it. Instead wiggle the screw a little side to side until it finds its groove. Then you can easily hand tighten it about half way. Then, use the tool to tighten about 3/4 of the way. I recommend not tightening any Screw all the way until all of them are partly in. That way you can wiggle the parts a little, if needed, to fit snuggly in all places. Then slowly finish screwing in tge screws. Be careful not to overtighten (just hand tighten per the instructions) because overtightening could strip the top of the screw or the wood. Re-tighten again, if needed, after 2 weeks of use. So to sum up, this bench is beautiful, sturdy, very well made, easy to assemble, and a great price for the high quality of the product. And also, thanks for the good customer service. I shopped around a lot before second on this one. I’m glad I did. Have treated it only 4 times with teak oil and it looks like the day we bought it. It's directly under the shower stream in a tiled bath stall with slightly sloped floor. Has held up extremely well and I never dry it off or pamper it. Just drains or evaporates dry. Very stable, heavy and beautiful. Read somewhere that bar soap can leave film on wood, so we switched to liquid body wash. No more "cloudiness" on the teak. **Q: I assume the stool is 18 in. high, 18 in. wide and 12 in. deep?** A: I have the stool and yes, it is approx 18"high, 18"wide and 12" deep. I say approx b/c the top swoops. At lowest a bit under and at highest a bit over. Also, I have the solid top, not the slated one as pictured. **Q: I received a teak bench without any hardware. What is required to assemble it?** A: Me, too. No bolts, no allen wrench, no assembly directions. Took two phone calls and two and a half weeks to resolve. I would suggest you call Aqua Teak as soon as your order is confirmed and insist that they open your box and check for fasteners before shipment. Love the bench, hate the hassle. **Q: This cannot be solid teak. A veneer? You can clearly see different pieces of wood have been glued together to make larger pieces, in/on the legs.** A: All of our products are 100% solid teak and and not any type of veneer in any way.
