The majority of the cover is a reasonably thick vinyl that is sturdy and I would not expect it to rip or puncture during normal use. The rubber opening easily pulls apart to create ample room for inserting a leg with a bulky cast or bandages. The foot part of the cover is quite oversized and would easily accommodate larger size feet. (For example, I wear a women's size 9.5 and my foot did not take up even half of the foot part of the cover.) While the rubber opening stretches open easily, it fit tightly but comfortably around my leg to keep water out.
