I was running a 20" bar on a Stihl 311 and by the time you add the saw to the mill, the brackets and how it mounts takes up about 4 inches of your cutting length leaving you with a max cut of 16". I ended up having to purchase a 25 inch bar and new ripping chains. With the 25" bar, I was able to slab boards under 20" in width. Ideally, a 36 inch bar would be better but my Stihl 311 would be very unhappy with that much chain. Overall, really love this product. Well built, sturdy, and works. Only complaint would be with all of the track extension set screws. These will vibrate out of their hole quite easily and I am going to use some lightweight locktite to help the screws stay in place. Works great. **Q: Can i cut a 12 inch log in half horizontally?** A: Yes **Q: How long of a log does it cut?** A: It will cut a log as long as the rail system you are operating it on. It was easy to assemble, holds the chainsaw bar very well (no slippage) and the height adjustment is bang on and does not slip either. I've been using it now for a few months as a weekend warrior and have had great results. I don't normally post reviews, but felt it necessary to share my experience. The video I posted is nothing special, though this is last cut before the mishap with the height bracket as shown in the picture. While tightening the height nuts, this bracket snapped in half. (ignore my pathetic attempt to weld it back together) I'm here to complain or bash the product, I'm here to say Zozen really stands behind it's products. After sending a note through Amazon to Zozen on a Sunday, totally expecting not to hear back until the work week, Zozen replied on SUNDAY within a couple of hours. By the end of day on SUNDAY, they worked out a satisfactory solution and I'll be back up working again soon. Not only is this product of great value, quality and design, the manufacturer provides outstanding customer service.
