Had an EC701 for 14years till it started leaking and could not find parts to fix it. Pros: ease of use, programmable (EC 701 was manual and had to make sure you were there to stop the brewing), nice smallish foot print. Cons: the filters are pressurized (what gives DeLonghi?) (waiting on my non pressurized filter) I am using an OXO burr grinder (love it) to grind my beans. After my first brew I was like, oh no; I made a mistake. I nerd’d out on reviews and YouTube. The crema was so so. (EC 701 crema was on point no matter what) After few brews I have it dialed in. I grind my beans on and in between 2 and 3 in the fine area of the dial on the grinder, my first brew was on the 1 setting (finest) in the fine area and the grind setting. With the grind dialed in and not tamping to much the crema and flavor improved. As soon as my non-pressurized filter comes in I’ll update this. Will add the Rancilio steam wand after the warranty is up ( I don’t steam that much unless somebody wants a cappuccino). So not five stars yet till I see how it performs with a non-pressurized filter.
