The keyboard is detachable. There's a magnetic strip underneath the folding edge to keep the keyboard in place so that it doesn't slide around when you use it to keep your ipad upright. When you close the case with the keyboard in it, it holds pretty well but I am yet to put it under more rigorous tests.Cons: Without the keyboard in place, keeping your ipad upright does not exist so don't misplace it. No,seriously....don't misplace it. Closing the flap with the keyboard in makes it bulky.
