When following the manufacturer's owner manual it has a guide how to clean the dust sensor while cleaning the pre-filter, then resetting. Very effective and simple. The carbon filter removes odors. All carbon filters become ineffective with usage and will need replaced. This pretty much the typical standard on home/office air filtration systems. Please note an odor sensor that could detect all odors humans deem as unpleasant or a hazard would cost thousands of dollars.
