This is exactly what I wanted. It is pretty hefty, but well balanced, very sharp and the fit and finish is surprisingly good. It came with a coating of shipping grease to keep it from rusting, so I cleaned it with soapy water, dried it well and reapplied some cooking oil to it. Reading other reviews leads me to believe this is far more a carbon steel than a stainless as it states in the original listing. Carbon steel is great, but I feel you will want to treat it like you would a cast iron pan and keep it dry and oiled. I included a front shot so you can see how it tapers gradually from quite thick at the spine, down to the blades edge. I also included a pic of it with my other kitchen knives so you could get a better sense of perspective. Its a nice size, but not as HUGE as it appears in many picture I see.
