The consistency of the sauce is thicker than water but not as thick as a heavy stew. The food actually tastes pretty good (yes, I tasted it out of curiosity) even if it is unseasoned. Our little guy loves it. **Q: what is the shelf life for these cans?** A: I haven't reviewed "Grandma's Chicken Soup", just Polynesian BBQ and one of the others. I would guess that the shelf life is typical of canned foods, though. The cases I bought (two different flavors) have "Best By" dates of August 2018. **Q: Has anybody had any luck with their cats losing weight on this?
