Review: Cheaper flex stand and full capability access to insights - I got the Nanit pro with flex stand on prime day for 150 which was a great deal. I had wanted a Nanit monitor for a while but couldn’t decide which stand to get as the floor and wall stands seemed to come with a much bigger price tag but also more capabilities. The reality is this was quite misleading, as actually, the flex stand Nanit pro is just as capable of doing most of the same things as the more expensive stands, as long as it’s placed at an optimal position. They just don’t give you the instructions to access the capabilities automatically which is annoying and a bit sneaky. Anyway after some queries and one very helpful customer service assistant I found a solution that lets me get the high speed all night playback and sleep insights (without the bigger price tag). I’m sharing the solution on here so others can also benefit from the maximum that this Nanit with the cheaper monitor stand has to offer: So read on to see the workaround to be able to receive Insights with the Nanit Flex Stand (previously called the Multi-Stand). By default, they disable Insights to work on the Flex Stand. This is because the algorithm was designed to work best with a fixed height of 66 inches and the camera positioned above the wide side of the crib. Since the Flex Stand can be placed anywhere, it can provide the camera with a less optimal position, thus providing the algorithm with insufficient data which can cause inaccurate Insights. However, you do have the option to enable Insights on the Flex Stand if you so choose using these instructions: Tap "Baby Settings" > "Advanced" > Tap "Firmware Version" five times quickly and a hidden menu will appear > Tap "Mount mode" > Choose "Floor Stand." I’m now super happy with this monitor as I can actually access the features they had initially hidden from me (I have it on a shelf above the short side -top) of the crib and it works grand - in due course I’ll put the stand on a shelf at the optimum position (height of 66 inches and positioned above the wide side of the crib).
Review: After 9 months of 24/7 usage, we wouldn't buy it again - We’ve been using the Nanit baby monitor 24/7 for the last nine months, so I thought it was about time I wrote a review. The headline is, I wouldn’t buy it again. It feels like a baby monitor where the marketing push for subscriptions is miles ahead of what the product actually delivers. The positives - The camera quality is good. Crisp visuals and clear audio (aside from when white noise is playing, for obvious reasons). - The camera itself is small and fairly portable. Unfortunately, that’s about it for the positives. Although the camera is compact, it has to be mounted on a stand above the cot. Every time we go away, whether for one night or several, it’s an absolute faff to get the camera out from behind the cot, pack it up, load it into the car, and then set it all up again at the new location. We have friends with radio-based monitors that have a simple clip on the back, and after using this, we’re seriously considering getting one of those for our next trip. Staying on the topic of portability, this camera relies on Wifi. That means every time you go somewhere new (an Airbnb, a parent’s house, a friend’s place), you have to pair it with a new Wifi network. Sometimes this works first time, other times you have to turn it off and on and try again. In my experience, it usually connects within three attempts. The app itself is another major frustration. It often feels awkward and unintuitive, and it’s clearly designed to push you towards paid features. You’ll tap on options that appear to be standard, only to be met with a paywall for a very expensive subscription. I’m generally happy to pay for subscriptions if they offer good value, but the basic AI detection (awake, standing, being attended to) is really poor. It mis-detects around a quarter of events every day, which is far too high given how much they’re charging. On Android, there’s another issue. We had to buy a tablet to use as a dedicated overnight monitor or for grandparents, but the Android app won’t rotate properly into landscape. You can rotate the video feed, but the app itself stays in portrait mode, leaving huge empty bars on either side and a tiny video in the middle. Firmware updates are another pain point. I understand that a cloud connected device needs regular updates, but the way this is handled is terrible. Today (at 5am) I switched from my phone to the tablet as I was leaving for work, only for the tablet to announce that it had to enforce a firmware update and reboot immediately. There was no option to delay it. It didn’t even allow me to fade out or lower any sounds, it just cut them, rebooted, then turned them back on at the previous volume, waking the baby. It feels like this was designed without any consideration for real world usability. Internet dependency is another serious issue. There’s mention of a “local” mode, where you can add a local only user to view the camera over the wifi. However, if you haven’t set this up in advance and your internet goes down, you’ll discover that you can’t add users and often can’t access the camera at all. Sometimes it will say “local view only” for your accounts, but you can’t seem to force this mode. In my experience, if the device you’re using can’t access the internet, you can’t view the camera. There are plenty of threads online about this problem. It also means that when staying in rentals or Airbnbs, poor Wifi coverage can force you to move the travel cot into awkward places just to get a signal. The same is true for power, which affects more brands than just the Nanit, but as it requires mains power you will often need to travel with an extension lead as some of the older places we stay at don't have power sockets where you would tend to position a travel cot. Finally, the user management is unnecessarily complex. We have grandparents who occasionally look after the baby, and getting the app set up on their phones requires full user registration, email confirmation, and account setup. There’s no real benefit that justifies this level of friction. If I could go back in time, I wouldn’t buy this again. There’s clearly a heavy focus on driving users towards expensive subscription plans, but the app experience and AI quality just don’t justify the cost yet.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ So pleased with it!
*by E***N on 23 March 2023*

I bought an Angelcare monitor originally, their top of the range model, and was SO disappointed with it. The range was rubbish and it kept dropping out, and worst of all it somehow knocked out Wi-Fi out every time it was on (must have been interfering with the Wi-Fi frequency). So I purchased the Nanit that promised to work over out Wi-Fi and not interfere with it. So glad I did! The picture is vastly superior to the Angelcare monitor. It has tons of nice features and the picture doesn’t seem laggy at all. It’s really smart looking and I like that I can mount the flex unit on any old tripod as there’s a screw hole in the bottom of it. It was incredibly easy to set up and get going with it, which is important when you’ve got a new baby and limited time to faff with these things. Overall delighted with my purchase
