## Description

Originally developed for use in sculpting Disney's animatronics models , WED (Walter E. Disney) clay is an extremely versatile water based clay with properties similar to many of today's most popular oil based clays. It's smooth, slow drying, extremely pliable, and works great for sculptors seeking a "fast sculpt" medium. WED clay is still commonly used by professionals in the entertainment industry for masks, modeling, mockup, and large scale sculptures. Like any water based clay, WED clay needs to be kept moist, preferably with a spray bottle or a damp towel. Saran wrap is also commonly used.

Review: Good, cheap modeling material to have handy. Very versatile. - Great stuff. Dries relatively slow (takes about a day for a 1" thick piece to fully dry), kind of gummy at first but if you let it dry a little before working it its nice and firm and takes detail well. Makes a great medium for relatively large pieces like masks, or a good armature/filler material for smaller pieces in oil clay. Cheap enough to experiment with without worrying about losing expensive modeling media. Can also be almost completely recycled by soaking dried pieces in water for a few hours. Good modeling material to have handy and very versatile.

The price averaged out to just under a dollar per pound, which is a substantial hike from the 50 cents a pound others have paid not so long ago, but all WED sellers I found seemed to be selling at roughly a dollar per pound, so I have to accept this as the current going rate. Will probably buy again once I'm finished.

**Q: Is WED a sulphur-bearing clay?  I'm making urethane molds.**
A: WED clay is sulfur-free, and safe to use with silicones. However, it is water-based, so you cannot use it with urethanes (the water will cause urethanes to foam).

**Q: `wed` clay is oil based by definition, this being the case, why are you claiming your water based clay is `wed`?**
A: I don't know where you got WED clay being oil based from, but you are mistaken. Water based & slow drying.

**Q: Is this air dry clay that doesn't need fired?**
A: Laguna's WED is a great no-fire air drying clay. Just form what you want and dry it slowly! Originally developed for use in sculpting Disney's animatronics models , WED (Walter E. Disney) clay is an extremely versatile water based clay with properties similar to many of today's most popular oil based clays.

**Q: Gunna take me years to use all this what’s the shelf life?**
A: It can last years if you keep it moist. The bag it comes in is pretty hefty. I use wire to close it up. Then, maybe once a month I spray it with a water bottle.

Great stuff. Fast delivery. Great product. Looking forward to making clay molds. Updated.... a wonderful clay to work with. It is easy to mold and shape. It is very easy to use and keeps it shape once made. This was important because I needed to use the clay molds to make over 25 lioness masks for a school production of "Lion King". Highly recommend the clay.
