I cut it away, and then understood my error. The basket may float when installed in the skimmer, if the pump is not on. After reattaching the weight, the basket gently sinks to the bottom of the skimmer. So far the basket seems pretty sturdy, but these baskets get attacked by the chlorine and usually become brittle and fail after a few years. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Repeat Buyer - Work Great at Reasonable Price *by D***R on July 1, 2025* Think I am about to buy my third. The previous two lasted about 3-4 years each. Once, one started floating to the top so I just thew two small pebbles into it, Not sure how long the Pentair brand lasts, but 4 years seems reasonable for all the leaves and debris that wear on this thing. May buy one with a long handle on it instead this time, though, due to deteriorating knee issues.
