I put my Crucial P3 Plus 4TB M.2 NVMe SSD into this (whilst waiting to buy a 4TB Acer Predator GM7000 or possibly different if prices improve). The Crucial seems to run at max speed when connected to the Thunderbolt 4 port on MSI GE78HX laptop A transfer of over 900GB of media files was blazingly fast & took no time at all. Unfortunately I just needed my files moved asap so didn't actually time it, nor got around to benchmarking via a utility to fully test but will do so when I have more time just to actually see how well it performs. Considering the Crucial is only rated for 4800MBs I believe the enclosure will have no trouble with higher speed SSDs. ONE THING TO NOTE- The Crucial has it's NAND & Controller etc all on 1 side so I just placed a thermal pad on that side ensuring it contacts the lid & at most it became warm with no worries about overheating. With faster SSDs & particularly double sided like the Acer GN7000 it will defo get more heat but considering how well it does with the Crucial I believe it'll manage very nicely. USB-C Thunderbolt cable provided is high quality & it's very nice to see a 500mm length instead of the usual pathetically short cables most supply. Hopefully this'll continue to perform well into the future but as it currently stands I can highly recommend if it can be found for a reasonable price (under £90). Will be keeping an eye on Black Friday & grab at lease 1 more if dropped to a bargain price. (per Intel, 18Gbps of 40Gbps is reserved for Displayport video). they also do not support USB Gen 2x2 20Gbps mandatory with USB4. only USB 3.1 10Gbps. there's no telling which exact model ACASIS (or anybody else) is shipping at this very moment. none can possibly transfer 40Gbps - that's 5000 MB/s. they all get approx half that. none are USB4 - their USB interface is only USB 3.1. that's all there is to it. the ads are all consistently deceptive and untruthful. and most Answerers in the Q&A only help compound the fraud. . **Q: Does this enclosure support nvme 4.0 or only 3.0? will using a 4.0 capable drive provide speed improvements with this enclosure?** A: No, you most likely will see no difference as others answered partially but not directly. You are bottlenecked by 1- Thunderbolt 3, which theoretically can handle 40Gbs/5,000MBps, but in the real world in my experience tops at 3,500~ish. 2- Various other parameters such as cable quality, NVME drive technologies, SLC, TLC, QLC, VNAND, etc. My suggestion: Buy the BEST NVME 3.0 you can, with the largest DRAM or SLC cache, AND make sure that below that cache it has VNAND instead of regular NAND. Keep an eye on too high densities as well. SLC is faster than TLC which is faster than QLC… Best.
