The pieces are large enough to easily push across the board. The pieces are soft and a little squishy, and will be easy to locate if a child happens to drop one on the floor. The game is really simple, and is rated for ages eight and up. I do think you could play with younger players, but you will need to watch them so that they do not eat the pieces. The pieces are magnetically attached to the board, so as the game gets jostled around, the pieces stay where you put them. The magnets on the back of the pieces are sufficiently strong to keep it attached to the board, but not so strong that they will scratch up the board as they are moved around. The case opens and closes easily. There are small divots in the one side to keep the case securely closed, while not in use. There are three hinges on the other side that function nicely. Even though this is too large to fit in my purse it is still a good travel size to keep in the car.
