"In sand"** A: We used sand anchors same design as these and only slightly larger, probably thicker shaft, maybe 5" auger plate, about 3 feet long, and galvanized, as mooring (in sand bottom) to hold a 44' sailboat. Used 3 of them in a line chained together with pendants attached to middle one. Went through Hurricane Hugo (class 5 hurricane over 200mph winds) in St Thomas on this set up and it didn't pull out. I removed the 6 I installed, after being on the ground 6 years. All the ones that were in sandy soil were perfect but the one that was in deep topsoil or loam, the auger teeth broke off before I could actually get it out.
