There are no chips to the wooden box of blocks and all blocks have a good even coat of paint on them. The blocks fit well through the holes they're supposed to. The lid does slide in and out easily. Some people have noted this as a criticism but I find it good as my son would struggle with a stiff lid. I've never seen it bother him that it's so easy to remove. If the blocks fall out... sure, more fun putting them back! Anyhoo... I like this and thought it was good value. The one I have has no problems and on that basis I'd recommend it.
