## Description

Product description Green Bear Aleppo Soap – The Original, Naturally Gentle Soap Our Aleppo soap, also known as the mother of all soaps, takes its name from the ancient city of Aleppo where it was first created. This 100% natural, vegetable-based soap is celebrated by dermatologists worldwide for its pure, chemical-free formula and skin-soothing properties. Hypoallergenic, pH neutral, and free from animal fats, chemicals, colouring, perfumes, and preservatives, it is ideal for sensitive skin, babies, and those prone to eczema, psoriasis, acne, or rosacea. With its rich content of Virgin Olive Oil and 40% Laurel Oil, it provides a luxurious cleanse, natural moisturising benefits, and protection for both skin and scalp. Aleppo Soap – A Living Tradition Recognised by UNESCO Our Aleppo soap isn’t just skincare – it’s history in your hands. The traditional method of making Aleppo soap has been recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage, protecting a craft handed down through families for over 400 years. Each bar is created using time-honoured techniques: olive oil, laurel oil, water, and soda, boiled in great copper cauldrons, poured into floor moulds, hand-cut, and left to cure naturally for months. This process preserves not only the soap’s nourishing, gentle qualities, but also the culture and heritage of Aleppo itself. By choosing Green Bear’s Aleppo soap, you’re not only caring for your skin with pure, natural ingredients – you’re also supporting the survival of a timeless tradition that has endured through centuries, wars, and hardship. Authentic. Timeless. UNESCO-recognised. Tradition Meets Modern Care Recommended for all skin types, our soap is particularly suited to delicate or problem-prone skin. (For babies under 1 year, we recommend our milder 16% Laurel Oil bar, as some may be sensitive to higher laurel content.) Beyond skincare, Aleppo soap has everyday versatility – it can be used to wash collars, remove underarm marks from clothing, and even for gentle pet care. We are proud that our soaps are produced by our Master Soap Maker from the Nasimi family, with whom Green Bear UK has a long-standing partnership. Now crafted in Turkey (due to unrest in Syria), the soap stays true to the original Aleppo recipe: first-press Virgin Olive Oil, 40% Laurel Oil, water, and lye (which dissipates during curing). Stirred in copper cauldrons, hand-cut and stamped, each bar follows a 400-year-old tradition before maturing in the sun for 6–9 months. This natural process retains glycerine for superior hydration, while olive oil nourishes and protects sensitive skin, and laurel oil provides antiseptic and antimicrobial benefits. As it cures, the fresh green bar turns golden-brown, enriching its soothing and long-lasting qualities. The longer it matures, the greater its quality, making it a truly sustainable, eco-friendly soap. This CPNP-registered, eco-friendly soap is wrapped in biodegradable packaging and sent directly under our Green Bear trademark. Truly the mother of all soaps, Green Bear Aleppo Soap brings the richness of ancient tradition into your daily routine, while helping preserve a heritage worth protecting, bringing the richness of ancient tradition to your daily skincare routine. Please note: Due to the natural drying process, each bar begins at approx. 215g, reducing to around 200g once cured. Weight may vary slightly. Summary of 5 Key Features 1. Review: Works for sensitive skin but beware of smell - Purchased 21st December 2021. Been using it since 22nd December 2021, it’s now 13th March 2022 as of posting this review. Roughly 82days or 2months 20days. EDIT: now as of 6th May 2022, I’m still using the same bar! 136days! I’ve ordered a second but it seems like this bar will take me till the end of May. I’d say good value. One thing no one ever mentions with Aleppo soap is exactly what it smells of! I've read accounts of it being 'distinctive and earthy' and 'exactly like laurel' which begs the imagination if you have never even seen the fabled tree before, let alone smelled it! Its Plasticine. It smells of Plasticine! No if's, no but's. Maybe Plasticine uses laurel oil in its manufacturing but either way this is a large and unwieldy chunk of soap that smells of oil clay. Use wise, I've stupidly sensitive skin which normally reacts to me just breathing wrong. With this soap? absolutely no itching. My skin likes it, no contact dermatitis yet so that’s a win. When I first started using it, I felt a tad greasy but now I can't tell a difference. My eczema is no better and no worse but also not itching which is the most important part. Only more time will tell if the rest of my marks heal with it but since it’s not getting any worse, I'm happy to keep using it. Good advice is to rinse off the bar 2-3times before you start using it. That gets rid of the most pungent part of the smell. It doesn't make you smell of it either after that coating is washed off thankfully. Something to note is you might want to chop this soap up into smaller chucks or you are going to be using it with two hands haha! You can cut it into 3 more comfortable chunks. I’ve tried using this in my hair too with mixed results. My hair is still not used to it, I’ve since switched back to regular shampoo. Yes, it helped my eczema on my head calm down from itchy fiery mess, but it also didn’t reduce it. I decided to just switch back because I was a greasy mess hair wise. It looked clean; it didn’t look greasy but it felt it so that was a turn off for me. One positive was that I didn’t need to detangle it which was a win! Given more time I’m sure I could get my hair used to it but for now it’s a nope. Lather-wise its harder to get one on skin. On hair it lathers up nicely so if suds are what you want? Used a scrubby thing! Overall: -Good soap, skin likes it so I will buy it again. -Tad pricey (I paid £13.45 for 200g vs the £2 for the regular bar soap equivalent). I get it, it's fancy soap but its still ouch haha! -Smells of Plasticine but its tolerable after you rinse the coating off the bar. It won't make you smell of it. -Cut your bar up so it’s easier to hold. -Might take a while for your hair to get used to it but it works. -Harder to lather but possible. -Would recommend for those with sensitive skin
Review: Exceptional, but expensive - Used as hand soap and shower wash leaves the skin moisturised and clean with a fresh fragrance. These are completely organic and have no Sodium Laureth Sulphate or whatever else chemicals which are bad for you. Very expensive but so is anything hand made and good for you. Lasts for a very long time. Will seek a cheaper alternative in future. Down to 4 stars just for the price.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Where is this soap made?**
A: I don't know where this particular Aleppo soap is made. But if your question is in regards to quality then I have a longer answer. Aleppo refers to Aleppo, Syria where the soap was first made over a thousand years ago and will hopefully continue to be made. Although, due to the war in Syria many producers of Aleppo soap make the soap in other countries and have done so for some time now. What makes a soap Aleppo soap, (other than being made in Aleppo, Syria), are the four ingredients Olive Oil, Bay Laurel Oil, Lye and Water. This particular soap is made with those ingredients and performs like Aleppo soap should.

**Q: Could you name ALL ingredients?**
A: Laurel Oil, 1st press Virgin Olive Oil, Water. The Lye used in the sonification of the soap is evaporated over the 6-9 months to cure and mature the soap in the traditional way.

**Q: Has anyone tried this for their hair? Am trying to cut down on plastic**
A: Hi, it is fine as an all rounder, great for use in the shower. You can rinse off straight away or leave on your hair or skin to allow more benefit from the olive & Laurel Oil on your skin or hair. Tradition had this soap as the mother of all soaps and is good for clothes as well, especially collars, like being gentle for personal use it is also gentle on clothes, so an alternative use if interested.

**Q: Is the scent okay for women? I was not clear of all the ingredients**
A: Hi, There is no added scent, it will just be the natural smell of the combination of Laurel & Olive oil. The soap is more designed & invented all those years ago for the many benefits outlined in 'Product description'.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best for healthy hair growth and scalp hygiene.
*by M***P on 26 May 2025*

This is an amazing soap equal if not better to the best tea tree soaps. It contains laurel oil (40%) which support healthy hair growth and healthy scalp hygiene. I use it instead of shampoo and my hair is as strong and vivid as ever before. A bit pricey but worth every penny.
