I can't comment on the mic input as I don't use it. This is a plug and play device requiring no special drivers - I've used it on a Windows PC, Linux PC, and Raspberry Pi 3 B (Raspbian OS) without any problems. I assume it works on Macs as well. I prefer this type of adapter with a flying lead - it's more practical for devices like laptops and the Raspberry Pi, where you get a number of USB sockets located close together.
