It is like having a white noise generator running in the background. I suffer from tinnitus so it's actually quite therapeutic. **Q: Do you think this will work well with a 17.3" laptop?** A: It would cool BUT (1) the laptop will slide because the foam foot on the bottom corner of your laptop would not be on the cooler(2) a 15.6" laptop is covering the whole surface of the cooler so I woul expect stability problem with a 17.3"Hope it helps :) **Q: Has anyone used this with MacBook Pro 17" 2.4GHz 2011 (MD311LL/A)? as bought a few fans that have not been quite big or powerful enough to do the job.** A: This is an excellent cooling solution and is really quiet. I have bought and tried several and this is by far and away the best. **Q: What direction do the fans blow the air up or down ???** A: Good question. The fans blow UP. I use this fan on top of an amplifier's vents and the fans pull the air upwards through the amplifier and it cools it very well.
