Review: Better product than other leading brands. - I've been using this brand of Betaine HCL and Pepsin since March, I only bought it because my usual brand Pure Encapsulations was out of stock and I can't live without it. What a stroke of luck that was, this brand has double the strength of ingredients for the same price and has made a significant difference to my gut health. I won't be changing back. I have Hashimotos and was recommended to use betiane HCL as I have low stomach acid. If I forget to take it I can't sleep and my IBS flares up. I take one with every meal which has protein.

**Q: Is this made of papain? Vegetable pepsin?**
A: Hi there - no does not contain papain, the pepsin is not vegetarian in this product.Hope that helps - it is possible to get HCL without pepsin I believe.

**Q: How many mg of betaine HCL does each capsule contain?**
A: 2 capsules ( serving size) contain 1.04 g betaine HCL and 40 mg pepsin.

**Q: do these have a very long use by date on them?**
A: December 2014 according to eBay. (12/2014) I dropped this supplement in favour of the far superior "B.P.P" (betaine/pepsin/pancreatin) for digestion of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins. " Hydrochloric acid secretion in the stomach does several positive things. It assists protein digestion by activating pepsinogen to pepsin, it renders the stomach sterile against ingested pathogens, it inhibits undesirable overgrowth in the small intestine, and it encourages the flow of bile and pancreatic enzymes.* Hydrochloric acid also facilitates the absorption of a number of nutrients, including folate, vitamin B12, ascorbic acid, beta-carotene, iron, and some forms of calcium, magnesium, and zinc.* Numerous studies have shown hydrochloric acid secretion in the stomach declines with advancing age." A: The Thorne Research - Betaine HCL & Pepsin are capsules.  It is not recommended to remove the Betaine HCL & Pepsin powder from the capsule, as it can be irritating to the oral mucosa.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ IBS Relief!

I have recently been diagnosed with IBS and have had a terrible six months with the most debilitating stomach problems. I didn't want to have to accept a lifetime of medication so did some reading up on my symptoms in search of a natural cure - and found people using this. One of my problems was undigested food and so I did a simple recommended stomach avid test with bicarbonate of soda (you can Google this) & found I did seem to have all the syptoms of low stomach acid so decided to dive right in and try this. I started with 1 tablet and worked my way up to 3 with each protein meal. I have a cupboard full of prescription drugs the GP gave me for IBS but I have so far not taken them. It is early days yet but this, couple with a high dose prebiotic and some dietary adjustments is beginning to relieve me of my symptoms. I'm not sure yet whether I'm on my maximum dose but I no longer have loose stools or urgency after eating trigger foods (not sure what these are yet!) I still have some rumblings and stomach ache, so I am not cured but feel sure I'm on the right track with this. I suspect this is on the way to being life changing, I just need some dose modification and more time.
