Review: No more slow and unresponsive internet! - Bought to replace a Nighthawk Router that had become troublesome. The Nighthawk router was less than a year old but had given me problems from day one. The web interface was slow, unresponsive at times, unintuitive, and worst of all would freeze up randomly every other day. After searching around and looking at customer reviews I purchased this router and I am pleased to say all those problems are no more. This router has a responsive web interface, it has been rock solid reliable for the last 5 or 6 months with no problems at all. Both wired and wireless have been stable for the entire time. In terms of appearance it's not much different from all the other routers on the market today, it's neither pleasing or revolting, It sits on a shelf under the TV and does not draw attention. Signal strength and range of signal is well above average I would say in our 3 bedroom house. The old router needed a signal booster to help cover the entire house where this router gives 4 bars all round the house and even in the loft where the dongle for our solar panels lives. Overall I would say this is great value for money, It won't win any awards for appearance but it won't make you hide it either. Signal strength, speed, and stability of signal are all excellent. Most importantly you plug this router in, set it up, and then forget about it!

I am extremely satisfied with this product, lightning fast on both WiFi and Ethernet to start with, easy to setup out of the box and with room to tweak it up some more, you can install some special scripts if you really want to. I mainly like the AI free protection that comes with it as an added layer of security, the VPN features and much more but the real reason I decided to go for this router is because it is not Chinese made which in terms of cyber security means a lot, this device is directly connected to my ISP by Fiber Internet, it replaced the ISP router and it is the main gate to my home network so I will not risk it with any product. So I would highly recommend this wonderful product to anyone who is security councious and is looking to secure his precious home network. As usual do some research before buying and go through all the features to make sure it covers your needs. I would also strongly recommend to have a dedicated fanless firewall in your network to complete your network security.

**Q: Will i need to re-setup all my smart devices or can I setup the ssid and password the same as what i had before**
A: It depends very much on your existing routers settings and security features. You can easily substitute your existing SSID and password, you would however need to make sure your authentication method (i.e. WEP2) matches the setting on the new router. Best thing to do would be to take screenshots of all the settings pages of your routers control panel and manually copy them across to the new one. If setup correctly, you should be able to swap out your router without having to reconnect devices.

However, this router does support guest networking for smart devices which I would recommend using for security reasons if you do have the time to change them over at a later stage

**Q: If i set by virgin media hub 3.0 to modem only and connect this router to it, can i set the router to change my dns settings to 1.1.1.1 & 8.8.8.8?**
A: Yes but DNS has not effect on WiFi strength, DNS is the internet phone book.

**Q: Anyone used the ax86 as a main router and using older ac as mesh with rmerlin firmware? how does it run. thank you**
A: Yeah I have been running that exact setup for a while now, been great, although I do recommend connecting the two via a ethernet cable, at least a cat 5e. I ran it while paired by wireless connection and then cabled. Cabled is noticeably better.

**Q: Has anyone tried this with BT Fibre 900 and had any issues with setup or performance?**
A: Hi, I'm using it on BT fibre 150, no issues what so ever, much better than the BT's own router. I can't see why it will not work with BT 900, it's well capable of handling that.

Good delivery and well built. As a home router, it is slightly complicated to set up initially, but it has a lot of features and options. Probably better suited to a more professional/office environment. Speed was an immediate improvement for most of my devices, but a old DELL desktop was still really slow until I replaced the integrated WiFi with an Intel WiFi 6E AX210 PCIe WiFi 6 Card and the speed improved from 7-14mbps to over 750mbps! Well worth it!
