The light is soft and doesn't feel harsh, but just because it's not blinding does not mean it isn't a bright. It easily lights up an entire tent and has three different light settings. It has a bright setting for full light, a dimmer setting for softer light (this is my favorite setting for getting my kids to bed...sort of like a night light), and a blinking setting. It comes with a small carabiner (not pictured) for easy hanging.
