This being the case, one of my criteria when it comes to this sort of film is 'does it expect me to know a whole load about the continuity'? The film 'New Frontier' in this series was therefore somewhat of a disappointment, as it seemed to expect meto know something about a comic book series I haven't read and willprobably never read. I was glad therefore to find that this film requires only a cursory familiarity with classical mythology. The sory is retold with pace and panace, as well as a good amount of humour.The plot is a fairly simple one. The Amazons live on an enchanted island, without men, after the god of war, Ares, started a war which wiped out all the Amazon men. Granted long life by the gods, the Amazons live into the present day, when US pilot Steve Trevor lands on the island, after his 'plane is shot down. Trevor is attracted to Diana, the daughter of the Amazon queen, while Trevor's appearance causes Diana to long to see the world outside. Ares breaks free and goes out to bring chaos and destruction to the world. Diana, in the guise of Wonder Woman, and Steve Trevor have to stop Ares before he destroys the world, and along the way they learn a few things about each other.The film was pitched about right, able to reach children, teenagers and adults. It is a family picture, of the sort that I would not have been embarrassed to share with others. In short, it is just the sort of film that DC ought to be bringing out in this series, neither brain-dead nor self-indulgent.The characterisation is just about perfect. I can heartily recommend this to anyone looking for an enjoyable film ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Funny, Action packed and one of the best of the bunch. *by K***H on 5 April 2013* I'm a big fan of the DC animated movies, I was a bit skeptical of this one, I was expecting a light hearted, softer approach to these kind of movies and I was really WRONG. This is up there with as one of the best in the DC Universe Original Animated Movies. From the opening vicious battle scene and the first lines between Ares the God of War and Hippoylta the Queen of the Amazons.Ares> You seem as eager to meet me on the battlefield as you once did in the bedroom, Hippolyta.Hippolyta> I only hope you prove more skilled in this arena, Ares.It was a nice change to see greek legends and Gods featured in Comic Book movie. The movie was fun, action packed and contains a fair deal of innuendo. The bonus disk contains two Woman Woman featured Justice League episodes and two documentaries. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Another good DC animated effort - get them to make the live action movies already! *by R***B on 18 October 2010* Whilst not at the same level of the Batman or Superman: Doomsday movies, this was an enjoyable movie. From its extravagant action set pieces to the adult orientated humour - I was always kept interested. That said, the film's second half wasn't as good as it's first, with the epic storyline that they were going for feeling very rushed (point in case, the whole rise of the mystical forces to wage war against the world). I also would have liked to have seen more reaction from the human world to Wonder Woman and the war that took place against mankind (aside from the decision to launch a nuke at Themyscira). Incidentally, mankind appears to be Washington/USA but no doubt to many Americans, it's the one and the same. In any case, overall, both my son and I enjoyed it and that is what counts (certainly more enjoyable than Planet Hulk, a movie we bought with this).A few words of caution - it might be best to watch this on your own before letting the kids at it. Whilst not graphic, it's violent (neck brakes and battle axes to the head kind of thing). There's also lots of sexual innuendo (one brilliant line delivered by Steve regarding Diana's "assets" when under the spell of the lasso - a standout moment from an adult's perspective!).
