Both pumps used to make an awful racket, you could hear them in all rooms throughout the house and I wouldnt dare use them when the children were asleep. I bought one for each of the shower pumps and the transformation is brilliant. In both cases the pumps had been incorrectly installed and screwed directly to a piece of wood between two joists and in the loft you could feel the vibration. I cut up a draper antivibration mat and put that on the joists, I then put plywood on top of that (not screwed down), the pump mat and then the pump. In both cases the extra mats and plywood raised the level of the pump by a few centimeters so I had to trim the pipes to fit the pump in. Obviously the mat contributed to the overall noise reduction but the other changes will have also made a difference. Expensive but does work very well. Review: It works - but a little tip - We have an old shower pump (about 15yrs) which works fine but was very noisy. After reading the reviews decided to give the mat a go, as others I was rather sceptical. Well it does work; noise is greatly reduced. Just one little tip others might find useful the old pump had 4 little rubber feet and after fitting the mat and the pump still noisy I removed the rubber feet and let the pump base sit firmly on the mat, this made a significant improvement. They do not say to do this in the instruction leaflet but I can see why it would make a difference the mat is designed to reduce the vibrations when the pump is in direct contact with the mat. They are very expensive and probably cost a lot less to manufacture, however, I have 2 pumped showers in the loft and I tried it on 1 first by placing a concrete block down across the rafters first then the mat on top of that and then the pump. It made a big difference to the vibration and sound in that it was so much more quiet. I have since bought a second mat for the second shower and am very happy! **Q: Has anyone tried this on an external aquarium punp? Have a large FX6 that reverberates within the aquarium cabinet** A: We have found that it does help reduce vibration and dampen the noise of our Large shower pump so it may well do the job for you.
