I've hooked it up to a Henry vacuum cleaner through a home made cyclone (made from a plastering bucket with an MDF lid bolted down onto it and some plumbing bends, quarter filled with soapy water) and it doesn't seem to make that much dust. I did have a problem with sanding discs flying off, which I initially thought was down to the sanding plate on the sander itself, but it turns out is actually due to the weak backing on the cheaper sanding discs. I think the fibre loops on the discs are breaking under load - perhaps due to the heat generated when sanding - and they then won't stick to the sander plate anymore. Keep an eye out for flying discs, as it's quite easy to miss them going flying off and carry on sanding with the base plate only, which eventually will lead to it wearing out and needing replacement. I have used it today for the first time renovating a previously varnished pine table. I used 80 grand sand paper then 120 then 240 with fabulous smooth results. I can recommend this sander and it is not heavy or difficult to use. I am a lady of 69 years. **Q: Ive already bought this sander and its great. Can anyone advise what use each polishing pad is for? Any general help would be great** A: You need to mark the pads with a marker as to what you want to use the pad for. You really need to go on YouTube or get a book on Finishing. It depends on what you are finishing, wood finishes or paint finishes. But do mark what you have used on each pad and never use them for a different finshing (paste - as in T-Cut). Everything has a "Grade" of cut for the desired finish. If you use a pad for fine finish (with a fine finish paste) but you have used a medium finish paste on it before, you don't get any netter finish. You are just wasting time and finish. You only use fine finish paste on one pad. That's the basic of it. But I would advise written material or YouTube to help you get the process a bit clearer. **Q: Can I use this to sand a big enough livingroom floor ready for it to be varnished?** A: It really depends on how much surface you are trying to get rid of to get a good surface - and depends on how much floor you have. This sander makes a lovely job of finishing cabinets, but you will go through a lot of sanding disks. I would recommend something like 80 grit to do the bulk of the work. You may find that an adequate grade for the finish to go on. You don't want any finer grit than 400. Really, the ideal orbital sander would have larger sanding disks. Orbital sander make a much finer result than any other form of sander. So the aparent rough 80 grit results are better than if you used 80 grit on a belt sander. Also, what ever sander you use, you will need to manually sand corners. I have enjoyed the results from this sander. Hope this helps. **Q: anyone know how heavy this sander is?** A: Mine is new and unused it weighs 2.34kg or 5lb 2.5 oz. Being a woman of a certain age I needed a sander which was easy to hold and use and this fit the bill perfectly. Although quite heavy its two handles mean that I have control of the sander. The only downside is the amount of dust it creates, I though mistakenly that there was an attachment for a vacuum included in the pack, the outlet on the sander does not attach to a vacuum.
