You can use a thin plastic bag around it and seal the ends up.. hopefully the sensor will continue to function properly. Is just my opinion so buy and use if you think it will be a useful product. For me it functions well at the specified on/off temperatures, better than other thermostats and there are not too many products on the market to choose from. Just test this item each year before it gets cold out to make sure it still functions.
